As the flagship of Infiniti's bold, diverse SUV lineup - including the sophisticated QX50 mid-size luxury crossover, the family-oriented QX60 and the urban adventure-oriented QX30 - the QX80 offers a powerful, modern and confident presence. The QX80 is a high-performance, full-size SUV designed for all-out luxury, with top-notch amenities for every passenger.

Redesigned for the 2018 model year, the QX80 is a popular choice with luxury buyers in North America. For the 2019 model year, QX80 LUXE models come standard with front emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision warning, as well as an exclusive new model, the QX80 LIMITED.

The QX80 LIMITED is INFINITI's premium version and includes exclusive content such as special 22-inch dark-finish wheels, open-pore wood trim in matte silver and satin chrome accents.

Alongside the new LIMITED, the QX80 LUXE and QX80 LUXE AWD models continue to feature a refined and spacious cabin with premium materials, handcrafted finishes and advanced driver assistance technologies.

Dominant Appearance
The 2019 QX80 continues the bold interpretation of Infiniti's "Powerful Elegance" design language and features distinctive Infiniti design cues. With its strong muscular build, improved horizontal movement and distinctive double-arched grille and headlights, it looks confident.

Measuring 210.2 inches long, 75.8 inches tall with roof rails, 79.9 inches wide and 121.1 inches wheelbase, the QX80's exterior combines geometric and organic shapes to combine strength with elegance. However, despite its size, the design conveys a clear sense of elegance and human artistry.

The QX80 has well-defined character lines and a purposeful front end with large, functional fender vents. The headlights run around the front corners of the hood and into the fenders. Tapered, the lights form a straight shoulder line that extends from the grille to the rear. These geometric lines combine with upright air vents behind the front wheel arches to create a muscular, almost architectural silhouette.

The rear features simple, clear details intended to visually emphasize the center of gravity. With sharp, thin taillights, straight body character lines and light clusters, and a raised lower bumper area, the QX80 looks wider, taller and sportier than its predecessor.

The QX80 also features the brand's Human headlamp, which uses Triple Light Guide technology to ensure maximum illumination and visibility from all angles. Automatic on/off LED headlights with high beam assist are also standard, as are LED fog lights. Adaptive front lighting and headlight washers (standard on LIMITED models) are also available. At the rear of the vehicle, slim taillights with sharp edges highlight the shape of the headlights and are equipped with LED technology.

Another signature Infiniti feature is the crescent-shaped D-pillar that runs parallel to the roofline. Like the shoulder line, the elegant design of the D-pillar emphasizes the horizontal position of the QX80's upper body. Every 2019 QX80 also comes standard with a power tailgate and a power glass sunroof with one-touch on/off.

With a drag coefficient of 0.367cd - on par with the most aerodynamic designs in its class - the QX80 features numerous improvements to better channel air over, around and under the vehicle. Infiniti has adopted a zero-lift approach to maximize stability at high speeds. The bodywork also improves airflow, particularly at the rear, to minimize drag-induced turbulence. These changes reduce the effects of wind turbulence at high speeds, giving the driver a better sense of control and connection to the road.

All doors have shelves for bottles and other items, and the second-row center console offers more space for mobile devices and other valuables.

Cargo volume is 49.6 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded. This provides plenty of room to store four large suitcases, four golf bags or a pushchair stored in upright mode without obscuring the rear view of the driver. With all three rows of seats in place, the trunk offers 16.6 cubic feet of storage space, enough to carry a pair of full-size suitcases upright.

The 2019 QX80 is also equipped with an advanced smart rearview mirror. A digital rearview mirror allows the driver to use the mirror as a standard mirror or convert it to a display at the touch of a button. (Video) 2017 INFINITI QX80 Walkaround and Review

The smart mirror also improves night and low-light vision, and the high-resolution screen combines two images into one, just like a smartphone camera, at 60 frames per second. With a wide-angle lens, it can also provide a clearer view behind the car, allowing a comprehensive view of the rear. Compared with traditional rearview mirrors, the QX80 smart mirror can provide a viewing angle of 19-20 degrees inside the vehicle and a viewing angle on the rear window, the viewing angle of the latter being up to 48.1 degrees.

Improved performance and security
Both the QX80 LUXE and QX80 LIMITED models come standard with the advanced 5.6-liter DOHC V8 engine that delivers plenty of power on the road. Combining the combustion efficiency of direct injection gasoline and the responsive acceleration of VVEL (Variable Valve Lift) technology, the V8 produces 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a smooth-shifting 7-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control and manual shift mode with downshifts.

In two-wheel-drive configuration, the 2019 QX80's fuel economy is 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined. All-wheel drive versions are capable of 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined.

The 2019 QX80 is available with two-wheel drive or INFINITI All Mode 4WD. The latter allows for four-wheel traction when conditions demand it and off-road capability when the driver desires it. For optimal power transfer all year round, the rear-biased drivetrain switches to rear-wheel drive as standard and continuously adjusts the power distribution between the front and rear axles.

The driver can set all-wheel drive individually via a rotary knob on the center console. The system defaults to automatic mode and uses a computer-controlled transfer case to instantly redistribute engine torque to the wheels with the most traction. Permanent high- and low-range all-wheel drive settings are also available. The long distance setting is designed for moderate off-road and snow driving. When more traction is needed, the low-range mode allows the rider to tackle tougher off-road conditions and steeper ups and downs.

All-wheel drive is supported by an active four-wheel limited-slip braking system that responds to wheel slip by automatically applying the brakes to each spinning wheel and helping to redistribute torque to other wheels to maximize traction and control.

The QX80's fully independent double-wishbone suspension with Dual-Flow Path® dual-tube shock absorbers provides a firm yet comfortable ride. The suspension is designed to filter out harsh road conditions and maintain crew comfort. Whether at cruising speed, busy city streets or winding highways, the QX80 remains composed.

In addition, the available Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) technology, exclusive to the QX80, limits excessive body roll in hard cornering. It is optional on LUXE models with the ProACTIVE package and standard on the new QX80 LIMITED.

As the QX80 turns, HBMC monitors body pitch and roll and adjusts the suspension to ensure a smooth, level ride. The hydraulic cylinders are connected to the shock absorbers and connected to each other through high pressure hydraulic channels.

Two accumulators monitor body roll and adjust suspension stiffness on both sides of the vehicle by transferring oil between the hydraulic cylinders. When the car turns and the body starts to roll, HBMC stiffens the suspension on one side of the car to counteract this effect.

(Video) 2018 INFINITI QX80 REVIEW

The QX80's standard self-leveling rear suspension automatically adjusts suspension pressure to maintain an optimal ride height when carrying cargo in the trunk or towing a trailer. This allows the QX80 to tow up to 8,500 pounds and carry up to 95.1 cubic feet of interior cargo volume when the third- and second-row seats are folded down. By keeping the vehicle at the optimum height, the QX80 remains stable and continues to provide reliable handling and braking, increasing driver confidence when towing or hauling heavier loads.

Large 4-wheel disc brakes ensure stopping. Two steering systems are available: engine speed dependent assistance in LUXE and vehicle speed dependent assistance in LIMITED (Optional LUXE package with ProACTIVE).

The 2019 QX80 is equipped with a variety of technologies that help the driver understand their surroundings, avoid potential hazards and reduce boredom while driving in certain conditions.

The QX80's extensive advanced technology systems include standard front emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision warning.

Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection provides audible and visual alerts to warn the driver of a possible head-on collision and reduce speed if necessary. If a collision is unavoidable, the function can apply the brakes to reduce the impact speed and severity of the collision. The system is also said to help avoid or mitigate head-on collisions with pedestrians by using a camera-based human shape recognition system.

Forward collision warning systems help alert the driver to hazards that are outside the forward field of vision. It can not only detect the relative speed and distance of the vehicle directly in front, but also the relative speed and distance of the vehicle ahead.

Also standard on LUXE and LIMITED trims are Reversing Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control (full speed range), Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention and Distance Control Assist.

The QX80's standard Around View® displays feature front and rear sonar, including Moving Object Detection (MOD). Around View® Monitor uses four small ultra-wide-angle cameras mounted on the front, side and rear of the QX80 to provide a virtual 360° composite view of objects around the vehicle, making it easier for the driver to maneuver in tight spaces. The MOD function helps improve the driver's situational awareness by providing visual and audible alerts (forward or backward object detection) when the system detects a moving object in the displayed view.
